MASS are affiliated with the Swedish Swimming Federation and follow their structure. We teach basic water habits at first (bubble, dip, jump, float, rotate). Back crawl and front crawl are the strokes that we then continue with, then breaststroke and butterfly swimming. We do not use buoyancy aids but instead work to ensure that the children are safe in the water on their own. How long it takes to learn to swim is very individual. For some it is completely natural and for some it takes a lot of practice before it settles. All our coaches are educated via the Swedish Swimming Federation’s education structure and undergo CPR-training once a year. All coaches must also present an extract from the police record on an ongoing basis during their employment with us.

We run swimming school at Lilla Åbybadet in Mölndal. Our swimming school activities include six different levels. Generally, one needs to repeat one or two levels. For many children, Pingvinen and Fisken are the levels that often needs to be repeated. To start in Baddaren (first level), the child must be four years old, and be mature enough to be in a group with other children, without the parents being in the water. In all our groups there are eight to ten children and two coaches. The lesson time is 30 minutes, and a course includes 14-15 lessons (during the spring and autumn semesters). It is also possible to participate in intensive courses. When the children have passed the Hajen level, they are counted as able to swim (according to Swedish definition): they can fall into the water, get their head under the surface and after getting back to the surface, swim 200 meters in deep water, of which 50 meters on their back. If you want to continue swimming after swimming school, Stroke School is the next step. If you choose to end your training, we still recommend to continue training swimming, to maintain your swimming skills. At least once a year (preferably more when the children are younger) you should try to take the badge Vattenprovet - which corresponds to the definition of being able to swim above.
